One changed word

A real case, a real opinion -- and a quote that does not say what the brief says it says. A single altered word, caught by showing the closest real passage beside the claim.

Existence checks pass here: Miccosukee Tribe v. United States, 516 F.3d 1235 is real and correctly named. The failure is one layer deeper, in the quoted passage -- the kind of error that survives every cite-checker that stops at existence.

The check answers with evidence, not accusation: the closest matching passage from the opinion, beside the brief's version, with the difference named. Misquotes are usually sloppiness, not fraud; either way the attorney sees both texts before filing.

This is why quote verification is the paid tier and existence is free: bodies must be fetched and passages compared, and that work costs quota. The free check tells you what exists; the paid check tells you what was actually said.

This check found 1 citation found, 1 quote found. Open the full worked verification.

Worked examples run against a fixture corpus for determinism; your checks run against the live public corpus. Attorney review required before any filing — see the User Agreement.
